Egyptians to keep an eye on in 2022….

Moustafa El Sirty

20-year-old Moustafa El Sirty went from strength to strength in 2021, winning a massive nine tournaments from 14 tournaments in 2021.

The Egyptian has risen 45 places in 2021 and has reached a current highest world ranking of 38.
His biggest win came in the 30k event CAS – Serena Hotels / Combaxx International Squash Championships in Pakistan where he beat Frenchman Auguste Dussourd in the final.

El Sirty ended the year in perfect fashion, wining his last four events. It will be extremely exciting to see him featuring in Platinum events in 2022 and to see whether he can continue his form next year.

CIB Nour El Tayeb

Former World No.3 Nour El Tayeb returned to the PSA World Tour in December 2021 after 14 months away to give birth to a baby girl, Farida.

El Tayeb made her return at the recent CIB Squash Open Black Ball 2021. She got through to the quarter finals but fell short to the eventual champion Nour El Sherbini.

The 2020 Manchester Open champion has expressed just how much she has missed being on the tour and competing on the world’s biggest stage, also admitting that coming home to her family takes the pressure off her squash results.

With this new mentality, mixed with her trademark skill, El Tayeb will be a danger for any opponent she faces in 2022.

CIB Mazen Hesham

Plagued by injury troubles throughout his career, Mazen Hesham hasn’t had much luck with his body in previous years. But the 27-year-old seems to have turned a corner in 2021 and put in some impressive performances over the year.

‘The Black Falcon’ made two Platinum event quarter final appearances this year, falling to World No.1 Ali Farag in the U.S. Open and Welshman Joel Makin in the Qatar QTerminals Classic. He also pushed New Zealander Paul Coll all the way to five games in the Allam British Open, which Coll went on to win.

These impressive performances saw the Egyptian reach his highest World Ranking of No.11 in November. With three tournaments entered in January, Hesham could get off to the perfect start in 2022 and finally break into the world’s top 10.

Aly Abou Eleinen

The talent that Egypt have been able to produce over the previous 15 years has been mightily impressive and it seems they have done it once more with Aly Abou Eleinen.

The 21-year-old has had a meteoric rise through the rankings in 2021. Moving from World No.310 to No.87 in just 12 months, and more impressively, in only 25 matches.

The Egyptian featured in the El Gouna International Squash Open as a wildcard and put up a tough fight against World No.17 Youssef Soliman, losing out 12-10, 14-12, 3-11, 11-8 in 80 minutes.

Abou Eleinen’s best result of 2021 came at the South State Marietta Open where he scalped two higher seeds, Leonel Cardenas from Mexico and Scotland’s Alan Clyne, to reach the 20k final. He eventually say his run come to an end against fellow rising star Victor Crouin.

2022 is sure to be the year that the young Egyptian not only wins his first PSA title but starts to trouble the higher ranked players on the PSA World Tour.
